Today, on the occasion of World Brain Tumor Day, lets have a quick look at some brain tumor facts.
When did it start ?
The observation of this day started since the 8th of June 2000, first observed thanks to German Brain Tumor Association . This is a non-profit organization which raises awareness about brain tumors.
Who is at risk ?
Age: People in the older age group are seen to be at a higher risk.

Some forms of Cancer: Being diagnosed with some for of cancer be a risk factor. The Cancer can spread from some other part of the body to Brain. Some examples of this are Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer and Skin Cancer. More information can be found on this page.
Radiation Therapy: Treatment for some cancers require radiation therapy. This is said to increase the risk for brain tumors.

Does Mobile phone usage cause Cancer? While no scientific evidence exists for this topic, research is still underway and finds a mention on WHO website. Reducing mobile phone usage could be a good lifestyle habit in general.
What are the symptoms ?
Headaches: Not all headaches point out to the at something worse. Most would have simple causes that get resolved easily. Rather some of the following types could be a matter of concern:
- Severe and Persistent headaches
- Doesn’t improve even after many days
- Early morning headaches that may cause to wake up early
- Gives a sharp pain while
- Bending
- Coughing
- Exercising
- Shouting

Eye symptoms: While many eye and vision disorders exist, sudden changes to the vision would mean seeking medical advice. Look for sudden changes such as:
- Squinting
- Flickering Eyes
- Blurred Vision

Other symptoms:
- Continuous Nausea
- Sudden Drowsiness
- Loss of Balance
- Confusion
- Numbness in arm or legs
- Changes in senses such as smell or taste
What needs to be done ?
Consult a professional physician as soon as possible. Early detection can mean more time and chance to save life !

Controlling Diabetes: As per UK based Brain Tumor Research Organization, high amounts of blood sugar can lead poor survival rates for some patients, but are not a cause of cancer. So manage your sugar well !
